Relieve tooth pain with root canal treatment

Restore your teeth and get rid of discomfort in Cheadle Hulme.

If you’re experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity, a root canal treatment might be the best option to relieve your discomfort.

What is a root canal treatment?

A root canal treatment (also known as Endodontics) is used to treat pain, sensitivity, or infection in a tooth. Often, the infection or inflammation is caused by decay or an injury breaking through the strong enamel layer of your tooth and reaching the nerves beneath.

During the treatment, a specialist removes the inner part of your tooth (the pulp chamber and nerves) before cleaning the root canal to get rid of inflammation or infection. Your tooth is then filled to stop bacteria from getting in.

What happens during a root canal treatment?

A root canal treatment involves removing infected tissue from inside your tooth to prevent further infection. Once removed, the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, and is then filled to restore its function and prevent further infection.

Your dentist will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area during your root canal treatment, so you should experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. The process usually takes one or two appointments, depending on the extent of the infection.

Your root canal treatment journey

We’re here to support you every step of the way through your root canal treatment.

1

Consultation and diagnosis

During your consultation, we’ll assess the condition of your tooth and determine if a root canal is the right treatment. This may involve taking X-rays to fully understand the extent of the infection.

    2

    Numbing and preparation

To ensure you’re comfortable, we’ll completely numb the area around the affected tooth. We’ll put a shield in your mouth to stop saliva from building up in the area, then will drill a small hole in the top of your tooth. Next, we extract the infected tissue and bacteria from inside your tooth.

      3

      Cleaning and filling

Once the infection has been removed, we will thoroughly clean your tooth before sealing it with special filling material, designed to prevent infection and get your tooth back to full functionality. In some cases, you may have a crown placed on the tooth to provide extra protection (which will happen in a future appointment).

        4

        Aftercare and follow-up

After your root canal treatment, your dentist will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your tooth as it heals. You might also be given some antibiotics to help manage and prevent further infection. We’ll check in with you regularly to make sure everything is progressing smoothly and provide any necessary aftercare.

          5

          Enjoy your restored smile

With the infection gone and your tooth restored, you can enjoy a pain-free, healthy smile once again.

Is root canal treatment right for me?

If you’re experiencing severe tooth pain, sensitivity, or swelling, you may need a root canal treatment. It’s ideal for anyone with infected or damaged teeth who wants to avoid extraction.

          • Tender or painful gums
          • Swelling
          • Frequent bad taste in your mouth

We’ll assess your tooth and discuss the best treatment options during your consultation.
